The Department’s faculty physicians practice and teach clinical pathology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, providing services in the following clinical pathology subspecialties:

  • Chemistry: Our chemistry unit provides expert and timely advice in the selection and interpretation of laboratory tests used in the assessment of health and the diagnosis and management of disease.
  • Hematology
  • Immunology
  • Microbiology
  • Transfusion Services
  • Virology: The clinical virology laboratory at UF Health Shands Hospital performs viral culture and identification, rapid testing for influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, and specialized PCR testing for herpes simplex encephalitis, cytomegalovirus, BK virus and Epstein-Barr virus. Serologic diagnosis of EBV, HSV, CMV, toxoplasma and rubella, as well as autoimmune testing is also performed in this laboratory.
