We are pleased to announce that Assistant in Pathology Jerry Phipps, BS, BHS, PA (ASCP)CM, has been appointed to a four-year term as a public member on the Review Committee on Pediatric Dentistry Education for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA). .

According to Jerry, accreditation is the process of evaluating an educational program against a set of standards developed by the profession and its educators; it is an indicator that graduates of the educational program will have achieved competencies of an entry-level practitioner. Public members, in contrast to professional members, have no background in the profession or its educational system, and function to provide fairness and transparency in the accreditation process.

With more than 22 years of experience in specialized programmatic accreditation within the clinical laboratory science professions via the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), Jerry recently completed two four-year terms on the NAACLS Board, serving as secretary, vice president, president-elect and president. He also served for 12 years at the chair for the Affiliated Professions Review Committee, reviewing and preforming evaluations on educational programs for pathologists’ assistants.
