About Ashwin S Akki

Ashwin S. Akki, MD PhD, joined the University of Florida, Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine after completing fellowship training in gastrointestinal, hepatic and pancreaticobiliary pathology at the Montefiore Medical Center (Albert Einstein College of Medicine), New York.

Dr. Akki received his medical degree from Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore, India, and went on to complete a PhD in Cardiac Metabolism at the University of Hull, UK . He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Cardiac Metabolomics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital before moving to the University of Chicago for residency training. Dr. Akki is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Dr. Akki’s primary areas of practice include gastrointestinal, pancreatobiliary and liver pathology with a secondary interest in gynecologic and cardiovascular pathology. Dr. Akki’s current research focuses on understanding the neoplastic processes of pancreas using immunohistochemical, molecular and metabolomic techniques.
